PARALEL-A: ---------- Historical Development
of Science and
Technology in Islamic World
There are many different forms of technology and in today’s
business environment, it’s doubtful that any business doesn’t have some piece
of technology that it uses regularly. One of the effects of globalization is
the relocation of production from the technology rich countries towards low
labour cost countries. This could be a threat for the companies in Islamic
countries, especially SMEs. What is timeline of science and technology in
Islamic world? How is science and awareness in Islamic world? How did Islamic
inventors change the world?
PARALEL-B: ---------- Development of Technology in OIC Member Countries
Analysis of TUBITAK model
There is a need of
establishing scientific research centre for development in technology which
leads to sustainable economic development in Islamic countries. The Scientific
and Technological Research Council of Turkey (T?B?TAK) is the leading agency
for management, funding and conduct of research in Turkey. The
Council is an autonomous institution and is governed by a Scientific Board
whose members are selected from prominent scholars from universities, industry
and research institutions. T?B?TAK is responsible for promoting, developing,
organizing, conducting and coordinating research and development in line with national
targets and priorities. How can the same strategy be implemented for
development of science and technology in the Islamic countries?
The effects and use of technology
in agriculture and food industry
The reason for
the choice of technologies is linked to the fact that growth and productivity
in agriculture and food sectors is central to any strategy of increasing
economic growth and development in OIC member countries. The threat of daily
food shortage and demand for healthier and fresher food is cause to use
technology in food industry. What are the ways to use technology in food
sector? What are the impacts of this transformation by changing the way food is
produced, processed, packaged, transported, and consumed?
Environmental
awareness and vision in OIC member countries
The
statutory regulations and their enforcement for hazardous substances used in
products have become stricter in recent years. It is expected to assume the
social responsibility of globally eliminating the use of hazardous substances
in its products in order to help preserve the global environment. What are the
ways of disposing the waste and treating end-of-life products in Islamic
countries? What are the rules and regulations can be developed to prevent
future effects?
16:30-16:45 Coffee Break
16:45-18:45 SESSION II
PARALEL-C: ---------- Development of the Foreign Trade Facilitation Systems among OIC Countries
Foreign trade facilitation is both an
information- processing and environment-building activity allowing long term
solutions that should benefit all stakeholders in the trade sector, and thus be
a factor for trade and economic growth. There is need for the involvement of
all stakeholders in the definition and implementation of trade facilitation measures,
as well as to the need for support at the policy level. Public-private
partnerships were an essential tool for arriving at generally acceptable
solutions. What can be mechanisms for
simplification process of foreign trade among Islamic countries?
Projects of
the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre (SESRIC)
The Statistical, Economic and Social
Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) is a subsidiary
organ of the OIC operating in Ankara, Turkey since June 1978 as the main
economic research arm, statistics centre and training organ of the OIC. It has
been engaged in statistical data collection, collation and dissemination on and
for the member countries, undertaking the preparation of research papers, reports
and studies on economic cooperation and development issues contained on the
agenda of various OIC ministerial and other forums. SESRIC also gives great
importance to the enhancement of human resources and in this context organizes
training programs on subjects of immediate interest to the member countries in
collaboration with the international organizations. What are the main
categories under which its activities are organized? What are the current
projects of SESRIC?
Process of cooperation on
tourism among OIC member countries and developing joint ventures
Tourism has been recently
considered in the national sustainable development strategies of numerous
developing countries as it includes all socio-economic activities directly or
indirectly involved in providing services to tourists and it is one of the
world’s largest industries involving a wide range of stakeholders. How is the process of enhancing intra-OIC
tourism? What is the plan of action to promote joint projects?
PARALEL-D: ---------- Roundup of OIC
member countries in the view of new technological developments (Nano, ICT, IT
etc.)
The challenge to the Muslim
world becomes even more acute with the emergence of new technologies (microelectronics,
nano Technologies, ICT,IT). Their rapid diffusion through the creation of new
products, processes and services is aggravating the “economic equation” between
the developed and developing countries are by and large at the receiving end. The
role of technological change in the process of economic growth is recognized by
all theories of development. Today, unlike the previous periods of
industrialization, the ways in which economic change transforms attitudes,
institutions and societies can not be reduced to a simple linear relationship
that is automatic. In fact, it has to be understood that technology is one
social process among others. What are current fields of using technology in
Islamic countries?
